Woodson County Pioneers

God Blessed
America
January 29th, 1861, Kansas
became the 34th State of these
United States of America.
On April 12th, 1861, soldiers of
the Confederacy fired on
Fort Sumter and our Nation was at War,
brother against brother.
Southeast Kansas became the focal point for Raiders from
Oklahoma and Missouri.
Plows, and other tools of
their trade, were put
aside and muskets prepared for battle..
Their Native American friends joined in
their fight for
freedom.
Pioneers, Buffalo Soldier's, and Indian's formed their
own
brigades of Kansas Home Guard.
These determined men and women formed the first line of defense,
of Kansas,
while fellow pioneers to the north prepared
for their own defense.
Woodson County Pioneers
Gone, but Not Forgotten, are those brave
men and women
who we called mom and dad; grandma and grandpa.
God Bless
Kansas.
and
God Bless our Founding Fathers
